My Story

Some basic facts about my story (the full version can be found here)

- I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was 14 years old with extremely high blood sugar levels in the 40s (mmol/L). Optimal range is between 4 and 7.

- I was on MDI (multiple daily injections) for almost a year, choosing to switch to the insulin pump in 2011.

- Since I've had diabetes, I've been on a bit of a personal rollercoaster, coming to terms with my new chronic condition, meeting other diabetics, adjusting to my new diabetic life and spreading diabetes awareness.

- I'm studying speech pathology at university.

- I stress a lot, about... well, everything. It comes with the diabetes territory!

- I play the piano and have now completed my Grade 8 performance certificate.

- I like to call my sense of humour an acquired taste.... you'll get used to it.

I'm not particularly funny, or interesting, I'm rather average really. But I'm hoping that my little blog can help spread understanding of diabetes as well as help other type 1's realise that they're not alone.

Chronic illness doesn't have to be the end of the world. Why dwell on the negatives when you can laugh at it instead?
